Our topic for today is about electromagnetic spectrum.

The year was 1887 when a German scientist by the name of Heinrich Hertz produce radio waves in his laboratory.
A British scientist by the name of Michael Faraday in 1871 produced electromagnetism also in his laboratory.
These scientific breakthroughs demonstrate that the electromagnetic wave theory predicted by James Maxwell was proven acceptable.
According to Maxwell, “the electromagnetic waves propagation contains electric and magnetic field vibration in mutually perpendicular direction.”
It means that the changing of electric field give rise to magnetic field.
What is an electromagnetic spectrum?
Let us break up the word into electromagnetic and spectrum.
The terms electricity and magnetism in electromagnetic are the two aspects of electromagnetism. Electromagnetism is a form of magnetism produced by electricity. It means the relationship between electricity and magnetic fields.
A spectrum is a range simplified in a graph, map, or a chart like the electromagnetic spectrum.
We can directly define the electromagnetic spectrum It is a range of frequencies produced by electromagnetic radiations.
It shows the different wavelengths and frequencies of electromagnetic radiations. These are the radio waves, microwaves, infra-red, visible light, ultraviolet rays, x-rays, and gamma rays
The electromagnetic spectrum ranges from extremely long wavelengths with small frequencies (e.g., ELFs (extremely low frequency) and VLFs (very low frequency)) to extremely short wavelengths with high frequencies (e.g., UV (ultraviolet), x-rays or gamma-rays).
Another information in the electromagnetic spectrum is the ability of the radiation to penetrate the human body. The extremely long wavelengths with small frequencies are non-ionizing while the extremely short wavelengths with high frequencies are ionizing.
