Soccer - Chipping the Keeper
Chipping a ball over the goalkeeper is an excellent technique for scoring a goal. In this video, we demonstrate a great drill for mastering the art of the chip.
Objective:
To get under the ball enough to lift it over the goalkeeper and into the net before the 'keeper can recover back toward the goal line.
Coaching Points:
The angle of approach to the ball is almost side on. Leaning back, turn the striking foot inward and hit with the instep while not following through.
Problems to Watch Out For:
Players will touch the ball straight forward and not out to the side, which will prevent them from being able to get under the ball enough. Players also follow through too far.
