I reflect on this: the lineage. What music might I create to communicate, to express the complexity of experience during this pandemic and our reactions to it? Perhaps the isolation, the distancing, and the semi-wish that all may experience spaciousness and peace. From where does music begin and end? This is the work of the lineage on me. That I not attempt extra-ordinariness, but response as artists must in times like these and all times. The call to sing what is in our hearts for we must create and fuel the flames of liberty by the muse. Or make one choice after another choice, such is the composition of improvisation.

The SCORE: John Cage's 4'33'', Home Office Version for voice, a cappella, in a single-movement solo, still, as if no one is watching. This is not a performance. Use of Timer. Timer used when ready to begin and end the piece. Nothing out of sight. Use of Mindfulness, Concentration, Insight, and the Noble Eight-fold Path. No practice, no rehearsal. No outtakes. No do overs. Just NOW

John Cage said: "Everything we do is music. Wherever we are, what we hear is mostly noise. When we ignore it, it disturbs us. When we listen to it, we find it fascinating. The sound of a truck at 50 miles an hour. Static between the stations. Rain. We want to capture and control these sounds, to use them, not as sound effects but as musical instruments."
