On Raglan Road - Anders L. Haugen (Luke Kelly)
This may be my favorite song of all time. I've dreaded the day when I tried to upload this, but I need to give it a try. This is a very slow version, but every time I tried to speed it up, it didn't sound right to me. So It clocks in at just over ten minutes... my bad.
This poem was written by Patrick Kavanagh about a relationship he was going threw. He met Luke Kelly, one of the founding members of The Dubliners, in O'Donoghue's in Dublin one night and asked if he wouldn't mind singing his new poem. Luke Kelly did, and it turned out to be one of the best things he ever did. Luke's version is still the best, though plenty renditions have been made. I strongly suggest Maurice Dickson's version here on Youtube.
