Make Money While Social Distancing (11 REAL Side Jobs!)
A lot of people are stuck at home right now self-distancing, and I like a lot of others have lost money in the stock market recently. With many of our income streams being reduced, I figured this would be a great time to talk about some legit money-making side jobs you can do right from home.

1. Online English tutor – If you are fluent in English, you can get paid to teach and tutor English online. Just sign up on a website such as Wyzant, and they connect you with students from around the world who are seeking 1-on-1 instruction. You’ll conduct video lessons with your students and be paid based upon the amount of lessons you’re conducting. You’ll need an online TEFL/TESOL certification, but will earn $35-55/hr on average, so it won’t take long to recoup your initial investment in your certification.
2. Online skill lessons: With so many people stuck inside with nothing to do, and parents looking to fill the day for their kids who have no school, there will be many, many opportunities to teach people a new skill. What is it that you do? Opportunities to give online lessons will be abounding. You can start advertising your services on Craigslist, Facebook, Offerup and other sites right now!
3. Video editing/graphic design: There are many people hunting for someone to do basic photo and video edits, or graphic design on Fiverr, which if you’re not familiar with it, is a website where people post, and look for freelance work. A lot of the people searching Fiverr are only looking for bargain basement services, so if you’re able to do basic functions and accept a smaller payday for them, this might be a great side hustle for you do if you’re otherwise out of work.
4. Voiceovers: All the stuff I just said about Fiverr applies here as well, in that even if you’ve never done it before, if you’re willing to accept a smaller payday for very basic work, you should consider this an option. If you don’t have a professional microphone, the voice recorder on most smartphones held against a pillow with a tissue with a tissue for a pop filter will get you started.
5. Ebay If you need extra money right now, you can probably think of at least a couple old things around your house that you could sell for some extra money. You can start by doing this, but also consider going out and searching thrift shops or yard sales for things you could buy at a bargain price and then flip online.
6. Virtual receptionist/assistant: As a receptionist, you may be fielding calls for numerous different businesses, and they’ll want you to have a clean and organized environment at home from which you can answer video calls. Virtual assistants handle calendars, social media, emails, meeting schedules, and a number of other responsibilities. On the very low end, these positions start at $10/hr and go up from there. 7. Blogging/Youtube- If you want to play the long game, this is a great time to start a blog or Youtube channel. Everyone knows that there are numerous ways to monetize blogs and Youtube videos, and if you didn’t know that, I recently made a video on the 6 different ways I’ve made money from Youtube.
8. Remote data entry: Remote data entry is easy and requires only basic computer skills, so it’s a rather sought after job for those looking to work from home. For a lot of these positions, you’ll just need to be able to type fast and accurately, and that’s about it.
9. Freelance writer: Freelance writers get hired to write not just social media content, but blog posts, opinion pieces, product copy and a number of different things. 10. Proofreader: There are all sorts of written material that need to be checked for proper grammar such as novels, product documentation, really anything professional from a company that’s going out to the public. This is another service that you can sell at a smaller scale on Fiverr.
11. Online focus groups: Bringing it home with the easiest side job on the list is participating in online focus groups. There are companies out there who will pay you for your time to just sit on your webcam and give them your opinions about their products. I’ve done these myself before, and the pay can be fantastic at over $100-$300/hr! You can get started by checking out websites such as www.focusgroup.com or www.findfocusgroups.com.
