Buck Landing on a Mirror
Landing on mirrorsmooth glassy water is among the harder things to do with a seaplane. When you look down at the smooth water, you see the sky. Or if the water is exceptionally clear, you might see the bottom far below the surface. So it's essentially impossible to judge your height, and you will probably go swimming unless you do as you were trained: approach as close as possible to an LVR (a Last Visual Reference on shore) while descending very gradually, at 100 to 150 feet per minute. And you must be patient. This video shows it done well and also something of the visual experience of watching it. (For the real experience, you need a seaplane.) The airplanes are two-place Searey amphibious seaplanes produced by Progressive Aerodyne, of Tavares FL, one made at the factory and the other built from a kit.
