This video is the third and last in a series that completely demystifies audio compression.
It's no news that setting up a compressor during a mix or mastering session can quickly become an overwhelming task especially for a newbie and even most times an intermediate.
This is due to so many factors ranging from the sheer number of audio compressors available out there, to the various controls required to understand to be able to properly use an audio compressor like a professional.
The most important Compressor controls you can't ignore are
1. Attack
2. Release
3. Threshold
4. Ratio
5. Knee
6. Hipass Side-chain
7. Make up Gain
By understand how to properly dial in each of this controls, you have solved half of your problems during mixing and mastering and this video helps you do just that.
I used real working examples throughout the video, to help you understand clearly and also hear how each compressor performs on with this different settings.
In this video, I didn't just only set aside a single compressor to show you how it works and how to set it up, but I actually produced, mixed and mastered a full song, then used every instance of a compressor in the mix and master to demonstrate how to set it up with various different compressors.
In the vocal alone for example, I demonstrated how to set up different compressors in a vocal, to shape the vocal for varying results.
I demonstrated how different attack, release and ratio settings in the compressor can give you different results and the mindset you need to have before making these decisions.
