Ladies and Gentlemen,
When PMP celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022, I began to wonder how I could effectively summarize these three decades, as a column on the website is a bit short for such an occasion. And so the idea for the film you are now watching emerged.
The idea took a long time to mature, and when I launched my YouTube channel, I almost immediately began working on my life's work – at least in terms of media. The task turned out to be more difficult than I expected, as it practically isolated me from other activities for a month and a half, as over 50 of my YouTube videos appeared simultaneously, only some of which were previously recorded.
Gathering photographic and other documentation from the 50-year period and converting it into digital form is one thing, but the fundamental question arose: how to present nearly five decades in a film no longer than 15 minutes. So, a precise script was created, with video scenes planned down to the second, synchronized with my commentary, photos, and background music. I'd never done anything like this before, but I think it worked, at least from my perspective. Just over 11 minutes is enough to not only learn about the history of PMP but also to take a peek into the very distant past, all the way back to the communist era, when I built my first stage speaker cabinet, and even a little earlier, when I thought I'd become a guitarist. I purchased my first Musima acoustic guitar, shown in the film, in 1976. The Fender Squier Bullet was purchased in 1985, and my most recent purchase, a Carvin AC 275, was made in 1997. First and foremost, I'd like to thank Justyna, who put a tremendous amount of work and talent into making this film what you're watching – both in video and audio. Putting something like this together from unprofessional source materials is a masterpiece, and I have no doubt that without her, none of this would have come to fruition. Justyna is a person of many artistic talents, not just in the arts, but also in music, which made working on the film much easier. Many aspects didn't require any explanation on my part, as I could rely on her intuition, taste, and sense of aesthetics, supported, of course, by her extensive experience in this type of production.
I would like to sincerely thank Paweł for unhesitatingly agreeing to let me use any of his compositions, leaving me free to choose the form in which they would be used in the film. I should add here that all you hear is Paweł – his guitar and all the backing tracks he's been recording in his home studio for years. The first track in the film is a composition from 1981, recorded in 1999 and submitted, I believe, in 2000 to the "send us your demo" competition, which "Estrada i Studio" organized monthly for many years. It doesn't surprise me that he won this edition.
I can't help but mention Krzysiek, who showed incredible patience in filming numerous takes of my "performance" on air. Of course, I'm still not entirely satisfied with myself, but I've mentioned more than once that I'm much better at writing than at public speaking. For example, I once "voiced" live on Radio 3, and I'm still ashamed of it.
And finally, I'd like to thank my wife for accepting my withdrawal from standard household duties while I prepared this material. I promised her that this would also make her famous, as you can see her in the photo from 1978, standing behind a four-speaker guitar cabinet. That was the year we met.
However, everything I wrote above made me realize the inevitability of time passing, and I'm glad I still had time.
