RT= 1:50. The Phoenix Islands Protected Area (PIPA) is the largest Marine Protected Area in the world. It's the size of the state of California. More than 99% of the ocean habitat in PIPA is pelagic, where a vast array of invertebrates live and drift around. One dozen seamounts are within PIPA boundaries, from sea level to 5000 meters depth. Most are unexplored.
