Who was the apostle, James? Saint James, also known as the Apostle James or James the Greater, was one of Jesus Christ’s 12 disciples. Along with his brother John and the Apostle Peter, James was a member of Jesus’ inner circle, and he witnessed major events the other disciples weren’t present for, such as the Transfiguration. He was also the first apostle to be martyred.
