Freezing Winter Wildcamp on Helvellyn | Abisko Lite 3
In this video we head up to the summit of Helvellyn, the 3rd biggest mountain in England, and camp on the summit in freezing conditions its was ace. I’ll leave a little list of some of the gear I used as didn’t really mention it in the video properly.
The hike to Helvellyn was from the Thirlmere side and was a lonely way to head up to the summit. Worth checking out if you’re looking for an alternative to Striding Edge which I’ve done many times. It’s testing on the knees but offers great views and the rewards are well worth it.
The key take from this video is be prepared. Make sure you carry plenty of water so you don’t run out. I always take my Katadyn BeFree water filter every single time I hike so know I can always get water. Although next time I’ll check some water spots out on a map earlier so I don’t have to hike back down. It’s colder on the summits and the weather can be more extreme so if you give make sure you have the right kit from clothes, to sleep mat and tent and water.
