Thinking of building your own website? Not sure what tool to use?

This video, from an experienced website designer, shows you the features you should look out for, when choosing a drag-and-drop DIY website builder. It’s easy to spend several hours attempting to build your website, before you run across a problem, limitation or pricing feature which is a show-stopper for you. Instead, here's what to take into account, when you’re evaluating which website tool to use.

For comparison purposes, the website I attempted to recreate is: https://www.savingsaffronsweeting.com/
This was built using Carrd.co, https://try.carrd.co/2h82m1c2 (affiliate link).

The 12 website builder tools I looked at, which led to me identifying the criteria you should look out for, were:
Mailchimp
Jigsy
Webnode
Google sites
Wix
Carrd.co
Weebly
Webs
Strikingly
Jimdo
Ucraft
one.com

And here’s my checklist for things you might not realize you should consider. Please decide which of these are important to you, and be sure to check these early in your evaluation of a promising tool!

How long / ugly is the (free) domain name?
How intrusive are the adverts?
What are the limits, especially on the free plan?
Does the tool even work?!
Layout choices: how constrained are you?
Can you change template/theme after starting?
Can you add the buttons you need for Calls to Action (CTA), in the places where you want them?
Mobile responsiveness?
Color choices: can you specify your own colors precisely, or do you have a limited set?
Cost of SSL certificate?
Domain name cost (and renewal cost, in particular).
Do you need extra features like an online store or blog?
