A lot of our dreams are influenced by what is on our mind when we go to bed. These “standard” dreams, for lack of a better term, are excellent lenses in which to view what our subconscious feels about what is happening in our waking lives. But there is a LOT more going on in the dreamworld than this.

In this video we are going to go over the MANY different types of dreams we have, and how each of them is valuable in their own unique way, when it comes to Dreamwork!
Once you get deeper into this practice you will start to see that you, too, are having MANY different types of dreams and will begin to see the value in each one, firsthand.

Standard Dreams: These are the dreams where we process the day’s activities. What we experienced in the past day or two can show up in very symbolic and often bizarre ways.

Lucid Dreams: Lucid dreams are dreams in which you realize you are dreaming and may even be able to control the dream.

Hypnagogic/Hypnopompic Dreams: The Hypnagogic and Hypnopompic zones are the transitional states we find ourselves in when we are just falling asleep or just waking up. They are the liminal spaces we move through when we shift between being fully conscious to dreaming and vice versa.

Nightmares/Night Terrors/Sleep Paralysis: I am lumping these three types of dreams under the same category because they are very similar and sometimes happen simultaneously.

Recurring Dreams: Recurring dreams are dreams you have more than once. You can also experience recurring themes like your teeth falling out, falling, getting caught in waves, etc. Some people have had the same recurring dream since their childhood!

Daydreams: Typical daydreams are dreams we have while we are awake. They happen consciously, although we tend to zone out and get lost in our thoughts when we daydream.
As a dreamworker, I suggest never underestimating the power of daydreams!

False Awakenings/Dreams Within Dreams: False Awakenings are when we wake up from a dream only to realize we are still dreaming. This is generally experienced as ‘Dreams Within Dreams’, where we dream inside a dream. This can happen many times in one dream and can indicate you are moving through many different levels of lucidity.

Dreams of Parallel Lives: I once dreamed an entire lifetime in one night.
Another time I dreamed that I was hanging out with two other “me’s”. One that was slightly more evolved than I currently am and one that was less. We gave each other some useful advice.
These are examples of Parallel Life dreams.

Dreams of the Departed/Visitation Dreams: Have you ever had a dream about a loved one that has passed on that felt SO REAL?? When someone close to us passes away, we often have vivid dreams about them.

Dreams of the Future/Prophetic Dreams: We all dream about the future, all the time! It’s hard to believe, until you start tracking your dreams in a journal. Once you have collected a decent sized dream collection, you will start to see it for yourself!

Healing Dreams: Healing dreams are special in that they bring about some sort of physical or emotional healing, peace, sense of purpose or balance in your waking life.
We can ask for our dreams to be healing, and more often than not, they oblige.

Shamanic Lucid Dreams/Journeys: Shamanic Lucid Dreams and Journeys are very deliberate lucid dreams, in which we enter the dream world while fully awake through the help of visualization, music, guided imagery and sound and or/shamanic drumming.

Waking Dreams/Kairomancy: Waking Dreams and Kairomancy are different from Daydreaming in that they are less about letting your mind wander on about something you want to manifest and more about observing the world around you consciously, and interpreting the signs and synchronicities you experience as if they were dream symbols.

Dreams of the Multiverse: I added this one in here with its own category because these are dreams like no other. In dreams of the Multiverse we can experience reality creation first-hand. These dreams completely shatter the earthly concept of space and time.

How many of these types of dreams have you experienced? Have I missed any? Let me know in the comments below!
