Were the flash floods that struck Sibolga, Tapanuli, and the surrounding areas simply the "fate" of extreme weather? Or was there an invisible hand that turned forests into numbers, and rivers into harbingers of disaster?
Behind the dried mud and hundreds of lost lives, there's an undeniable ecological footprint. This video isn't just about the overflowing waters, but also invites you to explore the Batang Toru upstream: the now-destroyed lungs of Sumatra.
Through data analysis, WALHI reports, and the insights of hydrology experts from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), we will try to answer these painful questions:
• Why were thousands of hectares of forest lost in the blink of an eye?
• What is the true meaning of the logs that washed away with the victims' bodies?
• Are concession permits and "stamped papers" really more powerful than the safety of citizens?
This is about the narrative of lost forests, the threatened habitat of the Tapanuli Orangutan, and accountability that must be demanded. Let's bow for a moment for the victims, then raise our heads to see the truth.
