Accidental and Incidental Polarization Effects in ASAP Optical Software
We may think polarization is only important in systems with strongly polarizing components like polarizers, wave plates, or polarizing beam splitters. However, incidental and accidental polarization effects occur in regular optics like lenses, mirrors, and prisms. These effects are easily observed in ASAP models.
We will demonstrate some of the tools we use to examine such effects. Some simple systems will be exhibited and discussed, with connections made to interpreting the results. A few ideas will follow about controlling unwanted polarization effects.
