Episode 16 of a series of videos introducing you to life in ancient Greece, during the classical period. Today we're talking about the army. The Greeks were a people of scientists, traders... but also warriors. The army of the Greek city-states, built around hoplites, light infantry (peltasts and other slingers), and light cavalry, was central to the lives of its inhabitants. A civic entity, a tool for defense or expansion... before discussing the course of a battle and a campaign, we must understand how the Greek army was formed, how its members were trained, and what they were equipped with.
