Hi I’m Max, an engineer at tameson, and today we’re going to talk about GEKA garden hose couplings.

GEKA coupling connections are sexless couplings with a 40mm claw distance. Rather than having a male and a female end connected by, for example, a screw-type thread, the couplings are identical and can be joined to any other GEKA coupling.

To couple a GEKA coupling, the two sides are pressed together so that the claws can hook into the other coupling. You then rotate them until they are tight, this causes a watertight connection between the sealings of the couplings. To uncouple them you rotate them in the opposite direction from when you tightened them.

These couplings do not have a shut-off function; before decoupling any hoses, they must be checked for residual pressure. The dangers of decoupling under pressure are reduced with the use of a safety coupling. These will relieve the pressure before the claws are released. Have an extra ring that is tightened and prevents accidental uncoupling under pressure.

The couplings come with different connections. Common connection types are female threaded, male threaded, hose screw connection, and even Gardena couplings, making them a very versatile and universal type of coupling.

The GEKA couplings are available in brass or stainless steel with either NBR or FMK sealing rings. In general, stainless steel couplings are suitable for higher pressures and temperatures compared to brass couplings. Making them more suitable for, for example, use in industrial irrigation.
