Homer is on a baby safety kick, providing his services for families around town. Surprisingly he is good at his job, too good. This puts industries based around profiting off harm to babies in financial harm, including this factory which makes greeting cards to give to sick babies and their parents. For some reason, the employees are covered in soot and carry mining tools, implying that the factory makes cards from coal.
I've heard rumours that the writers didn't like this joke and I'm uploading it specifically to say to these writers from twenty years ago that I think it's funny.
