Under the supervision of Capt. Ado Sanusi, the C-Check on the Boeing 737-500 commenced in November 2017 at the newly extended and refurbished Aero Contractors hangar at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, and was completed in January 2018. After a successful test flight, NCAA issued Aero Contractors a certificate of Air-Worthiness, and subsequently gave the aircraft the green light for its first commercial flight. I was on that flight. I sat in the jump seat in the aircraft cockpit, and It was a comfortable and awe-inspiring experience. Nigerians did it in Nigeria. A handful of Nigerians worked day and night, against all odds, to deliver a victory to the Nigerian aviation industry. A development that will save local airlines millions of dollars in foreign exchange. A development that has ultimately added a badge of prestige to the unimpeachable work ethics of Nigerian aeronautical engineers. A feat that earned the admiration of Boeing, the manufacturers of the aircraft.
This is a one-minute sneak preview of the story behind the monumental achievement. And as a documentary filmmaker, I’m proud to share this with you.
