Human milk contains more than 700 distinct proteins. Term human milk has a protein content of approximately 8-16 g/L, decreasing as lactation progresses. This is less than, for example, bovine (cow) milk, however it is of a higher biological value and does not overload the human infant's system. About 80-90% of the human milk proteins are produced by the lactocytes.
