Not “Viable” for PVP Makes Landing It Sweet | Elden Ring
Things that are considered not "viable" in pvp are usually considered so because they do less than ideal damage. While others are because the moveset/action is slow, the range is short, the tracking poor, the recovery long, or the cost too high.
The unique skill Night-and-Flame Stance is one that, imo, is mixed for pvp viability. The sword itself has an inconvenient stat requirement (12 STR, 12 DEX, 24 INT, 24 FAI) but is overall a good straight sword on the right build. Most people like to spam the L2 R1 laser beam (the Comet Azur like ability) because it does a lot of damage and looks cool but its the L2 R2 flame sweep (the Flame of Redmanes like ability) that is better for pvp. Unlike the laser beam the flame sweep has a quicker startup and covers a larger area, making it much more likely to land.
Landing the more difficult actions in pvp may not be viable but doing so despite having better options is like a little extra challenge. So while pve players may spam the laser beam because pve doesn't do great at dodging it, pvp players generally use it for utility or memes.
