Update: I will be releasing a follow-up video in a few months regarding the RetroTINK 2X Pro that many people recommended (I am planning on doing this as soon as the 1541 is repaired so I can do a proper comparison) . The solution presented in this video works well for me at a cost of about $35. The RetroTINK is definitely superior in many ways BUT it costs about 4X as much at $130. If price is not an issue the RetroTINK is cool (if you can find one) so I will add a link to it below along with the converter presented in this video.

See how you can create a Commodore 64 S-Video Cable to Connect the C64 video output to a modern HDMI monitor with an inexpensive S-Video to HDMI Converter. While a classic CRT monitor would be amazing to own, this solution allows for the use of a standard HDMI monitor whether it is for bench use or everyday retro gaming.

Update: Keep an eye on this channel for an update video comparing the inexpensive HDMI converter used here to the RetroTink 2X Pro. I will get that up as soon as the order arrives.

Based on the excellent blog post by Ilkka Sjöstedts of Ilesj’s Blog we get the Commodore 64 working on a modern monitor for about $35.

In a future video I will refurbish this classic vintage computer and a 1541 disk drive from the 1980’s so that I can get the RPG style game I was making in the early 80s running.

RavenWolf Retro Tech gives you a new vintage tech video each week. Up-coming videos include a 1984 Osborne Executive unboxing and restoration, a 1970s HP 45 scientific calculator restoration and several videos repairing and restoring the Commodore 64 in this video along with a dead 1541 disk drive . We will explore & restore vintage technology every week.

I will be giving you new videos, as I can until the shop is completed. After that, I will release a new video every week.
