Road Map for Renewable Energy Research and Development
On April 22, 2008, the Power Engineering Society changed its name to the Power & Energy Society to focus on helping the environment and society. This day has been officially commemorated as “PES Day” for the past three years.
The theme of the 4th IEEE PES DAY is “Clean Energy Revolution”.
With this theme in mind, to celebrate the day with an added grandeur, this year, IEEE RUET Student Branch in association with the IEEE RUET WIE Student Branch Affinity Group is going to arrange a webinar "Road Map for Renewable Energy Research and Development”. The speaker of the webinar is Dr. Apel Mahmud, Senior Lecturer, Electrical & Renewable Energy Engineering, Deakin University, Australia.
In Bangladesh, renewable energy share is only 3% out of its total energy consumption and production and now the Government of Bangladesh is promoting renewable energy projects in order to promote the renewable energy trend and sustainability in Bangladesh.
One-third of power generation in Bangladesh depends on the expensive fossil fuels which are imported from other countries and developed nations. The rest 65% of power generation in Bangladesh depends on natural gas resources which are depleting at a very fast rate.
There is a need for renewable sources of energy that can fulfill the power of Bangladesh. In this webinar our speaker, Dr. Apel Mahmud will explain the research areas in this regard.
