Making Primitive Arrows Without Fletching
Feathers are nice for helping to stabilize an arrow, but you don't necessarily need them for primitive weapons. I'll add them at some point, but something usable now will get me rolling in primitive archery.
The ice man was found with a quiver of arrows, and most of them were unfinished. Forming an arrow, hafting and fletching, etc. all take time, but you only need one to kill dinner. I made these out of a tall weed that grows wild around the property and yields a fairly straight and woody shaft that is lightweight with a slight taper. I secured the ends with sewing thread and wood glue, which could easily be replaced with sinew and boiled hides. Not all of them worked out, but I have one strong arrow that will serve as a proof-of-concept, and the bow releases it with enough energy to pack quite a whallup.
