Splitting a tree trunk into usable staves
After giving up on ripping this long section of log, I decided to bust most of it into firewood for my pile, but I still wanted to make some billets for axe handles and other projects. Splitting the shorter logs was much easier, and even though I still have much to learn about the process for larger trees, getting out there and doing it taught me lessons that can't be gained from "watching" someone else do it.
