On December 11th, Indiana Statehood Day, Karen Schwartz received the Hubert Hawkins Award from the Indiana Historical Society for Outstanding Contributions to Local History from Tamara Hemmerlein, Director of Local Historical Services who traveled to downtown Corydon to present the award to Karen Schwartz in the First State Capitol Building. This video shows most of the events that took place that day which included singing along with a Sesquicentennial Song "Down in Old Corydon," Indiana Statehood Poem by Schwartz, Presentation of Hubert Hawkins award (which will hang in the William Henry Harrison Log Cabin @) 419 North Capitol Avenue in Corydon) by Tamara Hemmerlein to Schwartz, testimonials and Indiana Sugar Cookies (with the two state capitals, Corydon and Indianapolis marked with stars, and tours of the WHH Log Cabin and Posey House.
*The Hubert Hawkins Local History Award is given annually to a local historian for his or her distinguished service and career in local history. Hubert Howard Hawkins was executive secretary of IHS and director of the Indiana Historical Bureau. He was instrumental in increasing membership through statewide visits and with the Indiana Junior Historical Society.
