Wat Chom Tham is located in Chiang Mai Province and the highlight of this temple is The kingdom of Lord Mahaganapati which is the only one in the world, located on the top of the mountain of Wat Chom Tham. When you reach the top, you will find the 9-headed Ganesha, golden in colour, standing tall and stunningly beautiful.
This Lord Ganesha was created by a group of believers from Bangkok who walked to make merit at a total of 9 different temples until they had the idea together to build a 9-headed Ganesha at Chom Tham Temple in 2014, choosing a location on a mountain top of about 14 rai, which was an appropriate spot because there are no buildings to obscure it plus surrounded by beautiful nature.
This Lord Ganesha has 9 heads and 18 arms, holds 17 weapons and auspicious items, and 1 hand that bestows blessings on believers. The middle head has a crescent moon representing Lord Shiva. It has a height of 9.99 meters from the base to the top of the head. It is considered the only 9-headed Mahaganapati in the world. The word Mahaganapati means 6 or more, while the word Maha means great, referring to Lord Ganesha.
When you are finished paying respect to the 9-headed Ganesha, continue paying respect to the various deities, starting with worshiping Lord Shiva, Goddess Uma Devi, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati.
While on the back of the 9-headed Ganesha is the Phaya Mucalinda or Naga in Khmer art.
In addition to the highlight of the 9-headed Lord Ganesha, there is also a large white Phra Thanjai Buddha located nearby, surrounded by the most exquisite Nagas and a viewpoint providing panoramic view.
