Ukraine has found itself in a new reality where treaties no longer guarantee security, and countries are forced to fight for both defense and technological leadership at the same time. Our main task is to learn how to make breakthroughs where other countries change slowly.
Artificial intelligence already determines the competitiveness of economies. If in developed countries over 80% of companies use AI, then in Ukraine it is only 26%.
Ukraine has an advantage: we are able to quickly adapt new technologies. That is why Ukrainian banks and neobanks often outpace European ones. We are less archaic and can change faster.
Our chance is in technology. Energy, digitalization, medical solutions, mental health management projects, new products and defense technologies are areas where Ukraine can build an economy with a horizon of 2040–2050.
We should not live under the illusion of a quick end to the war. The world is not moving towards stability, but on the contrary - the number of conflicts is increasing, countries are increasing their defense budgets, the arms market will only grow. Russia remains dangerous despite the obvious loss of the myth of its “invincibility”.
Europe will have to move from fear of Russia to active actions: strengthening the defense sector, creating a new security architecture and cleansing it of pro-Russian influence.
In parallel, the world is entering a new stage of global rivalry between the USA and China. China is already strategically strengthening itself, using the weakness and chaos of its competitors. And it is technology that is becoming the main tool of this struggle.
For Ukraine, this means only one thing: we cannot afford to be slow. We need a consolidated position of the state, business, engineers, inventors and educators. The future will not be won by the biggest, but by those who adapt to the new reality faster.
