CODE Field Trip to Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven, October 2023
As part of my work as Professor of Interaction Design in Berlin I work closely with students. Field trips and exchanges are one of the things that deepen and enrichen student life and connections immeasurably. In October 2023 a group from CODE University of Applied Sciences in Berlin visited Dutch Design Week (DDW) in Eindhoven. We were also invited for a tour of the Industrial design /Future Everyday and digital fabrication labs at Eindhoven University. The DDW show is on all week and we visited for 5 days (wed-sunday)
There were 20 places for students and the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) generously contributed toward the costs of tickets and accommodation.
At Dutch Design Week students saw presentations from National, European and International companies, including designs, projects and start-up businesses from across the best Design Schools in Netherlands.
“In October of each year, Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven. The biggest design event in Northern Europe presents work and ideas of more than 2600 designers to more than 350,000 visitors from home and abroad. In more than 110 locations across the city, DDW organises and facilitates exhibitions, lectures, prize ceremonies, networking events, debates and festivities.
Although during the event every imaginable discipline and aspect of design is on offer, the emphasis is on experiment, innovation and cross-overs. Exceptional attention each year goes to work and development of young talent. DDW concentrates on the design of the future and the future of design. It is our objective to show how designers from around the world shape a positive future and to strengthen the position and meaning of Dutch designers.”
