In this video, I show how to clean the aquarium water for an African clawed frog. African clawed frogs are not nearly as sensitive to water conditions as fish are. However, I keep my frog's water clean and I notice his energy levels increase immediately after a water change. He even sings sometimes. Here are the steps:
1. Unplug the filter.
2. Get a jug of water and add the recommended dose of Aqua Safe Water conditioner, which makes tap water safe, or some other competitors.
3. Make sure the jug of water has the same temperature as the water in the tank. I like to keep the water around 80 degrees.
4. Clean the filter with fresh water and no soap of any kind.
5. Scrub the sides of the tank with a tank cleaner scrub brush.
6. Siphon out about half the water and replace it with clean water.
7. Make sure you change the water every three weeks.
8. Make sure each jug of water has the water conditioner ("makes tap water safe") in it, which removes any harmful chemicals, and let that sit for at least two to three minutes.
9. Fill up the water about a foot tall. Make sure it's low enough that he cannot escape, and if you do a really great job, he may even start to sing to you!
