Today, we’ve got another very special ride, but not because we are hitting the trails of some far off mystical land. No this ride is special because we are introducing the wonderful world of mountain biking to my wife and my best friend’s girlfriend.
This is my wife, Kelly’s third time out in the woods and so far she has been less than impressed with the pastime. Nevertheless she has persisted and today showed great progress.
But before we even got into the woods we worked a few fundamentals in the parking lot. This exercise focuses on looking ahead and using your peripheral vision to see obstacles without looking down at them.
This was Mary’s first time ever on a fat bike and in the woods. That didn’t stop her from trying this crazy three tiered bridge.
We brought the ladies to Tyler Mill which seems tailor made for skills building.
Unfortunately we didn’t escape the woods unscathed. At the start of the ride Kelly attempted a bridge and at the last minute slipped off. Luckily she was fine aside from the wet stinky mud water she now was covered in.
Of course the veteran riders couldn’t resist playing around on a few jumps and features during downtime between trails.
So what about you, have you ever introduced a new rider to mountain biking? Or maybe you are a new rider still working on your skills like Mary and Kelly. Let me know below in the comments.
With any luck we'll be seeing both Mary and Kelly again out on the trail. Until that happens, it’s your turn, get out there and ride!
