This is a modern fantasy interpretation of the legends of Shambhala, a mystic land accessible by Tibetan mystics.....The map and stamps presented here are the work of Eric Whollem....Most of the artwork here is comprised of original drawings by the artist....
Shambhala Nor means Lake of Shambhala in the lamaistic languages of Tibet and Mongolia.
Drawing a map to Shambhala has anciently been an initiatory practice for neophytes in Tibetan Buddhism....Such maps began with the ancient Bonpo people of Tibet....My own map draws largely on my imagination, influenced by the folklore of Central Asia....Balucha, for example is a mountain found in the Altay Republic; legendarily caves found on Balucha are said to be a portal to the inner realms of Shambhala.
