The Egg Wars
The Egg Wars is a name given to a bitter feud between egg gathering companies who attempted to harvest sea bird eggs to feed San Francisco in times of difficulty sustaining the city.....The Pacific Egg Company battled the Egg Company. This was in the days of the Gold Rush, when many ruthless people flocked to California seeking gold and treasure.

In the 19th century a common philatelic designation of faux postage stamps was 'phantom stamps;' thus it is not impossible to classify the fantasies here as phantoms, as opposed to 'artistamps,' a more generally used modern category.
