Watch a step-by-step tutorial on implementing Istio ambient mesh on AWS EKS.
First, we’ll explore ambient mesh architecture and its components. You’ll learn about ztunnel and waypoint proxy, which divide and perform the L4 and L7 capabilities of Istio, respectively. We’ll then deploy two services, the Istio Ingress Gateway, and access the services from the outside.
Then, we’ll onboard and label the namespace to ambient. Finally, we’ll see how to configure L4 and L7 authorization using ztunnel and waypoint proxy.
Istio ambient mesh is a sidecar-less implementation of Istio service mesh, which will be production-ready by mid-2024. Ambient mesh is lighter, faster, and offers high performance compared to sidecars.
We urge DevOps and architects to deploy Istio ambient mesh in staging and test it.
