Timelock VI
Timelock VI was composed as part of the OST (original soundtrack) for Tower of the Planets, a project I’ve been working on in videos on the main channel. This piece is for the end of the Saturn floor, which hasn’t been built yet, but will be a timed section that you must complete in a certain amount of time or your run ends. This is where the “time” part of the title comes from. The “lock” part is just because it sounds cool, and I guess you’re “locked” by the timer. And the “VI” (Roman numeral 6) comes from the fact that Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun. The TotP project overall is inspired by Gustav Holst’s The Planets suite, and several of the pieces in the OST are based on Holst’s original movement; however, Timelock VI is not.
The piece begins with a timpani solo at a slow tempo marked “Slow and Foreboding” leading into a theme introduced by the lower voices (bassoon, baritone saxophone, and low brass), before the tempo doubles, and the rest of the piece is marked “Fast and Intense”. A few different themes appear multiple times throughout the piece, including the one at the start, and a blues scale lick that you first hear in measure 24 (about 50 seconds in). The piece also features a 13/8 time section (doesn’t that sound fun) and a trumpet duet. In my opinion, this is my best composition yet! Enjoy!
