Hi there! :D
This week, I'll show you a little makeover on yet another item saved from the trash. I am all for recycling, especially when it comes to wooden items.
I love to take on projects like these when I'm in a little creative slump. The structure is already there and the work to be done is more of problem solving and repairing than creating completely new things. Plus, for this project, I had been looking for CD storage for a while, so it's a win-win :D
The original pieces was obviously done as some sort of school project and I needed it to fit into an adult's flat, so aside from a little bit of adjustments, less decor and a more subdued color palette was needed.
My first idea was to hide the uneven base by glueing on coffee stirrers dollhouse-style. But somehow, I really didn't like this concept and went with disassembling the entire base and setting it up again as even as possible. It's still not 90° angles all around (the uneven parts are in the back lol), but it's less obviously crooked now.
Since the top is already dark, I wanted the base to be natural wood as a little contrast.
Lastly, I skipped all decor entirely. The rack is going to my mom's flat, and since she's suffering from dementia, I need furniture and storage to be calm, easily identifyable colors. This helps the actual items inside to be seen/recognized better and promotes independence on one hand and organization on the other – she can see and recognize her CDs and pick them out easily (they stand out from the shelf a little, they're not sunken in all the way), and she sees there's a place to put them back to.
A lot of aspects of my life and work these days are caregiving related :')
So that'll be it for this week. I have two more repair jobs in the shop this week that I won't film, but after that's done, it's back to YT craft work :D Don't know if it'll be up already, the next upload, or far in the future, but in IRL time next week I'm working on a DBD project after a long long break from horror stuff. I'm super excited to get back into the swing of things :D
Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already, so you don't miss a new upload!
