La Bruja is a traditional Mexican folk song made popular in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. There are many traditional verses, with a double entendre of a woman "bewitching", "seducing" or "feasting on" a person (usually a man). In this Mexilachian version, Lua Projects rewrites the verses, in a celebration of traditional healers, midwives, and mothers, who in ancient times were called "witches/Brujas". This video could not have been made without ALL of the beautiful women and children who chose to come and 'play' with us on this beautiful Spring day in 2023. ALL of the women/mothers in this video are strong mentors, doctors, herbalists, midwives, doulas, teachers, community organizers, and musicians, linchpins of the Charlottesville community, who weave their magic daily to make their families and communities stronger. THANK YOU ALL!!! And a big thank you to Iximche Media for putting so much love and time into the creation of this beautiful video. Spring 2023
