We close, for now, with this video, where I show you how to setup CodeBlocks and MinGW so that you can compile and run old DirectX and C/C++ code. This information should prove invaluable in figuring out how to get the code from other old books to run.
UPDATE:
The old method of installing MinGW into the install directory of the MinGW version of CodeBlocks no longer works! I will work on another solution as needed. For now simply installing the latest, 13+ version of CodeBlocks, the MinGW version, should be sufficient.
MinGW has changed their installation process. I don't know how it works or how to install it right now. This will take some research. But as long as I run into no errors of missing MinGW components, I am not going to worry about it.
Also DirectX and OpenGL are not linked to anymore. Instead I am using something called AllCode, a compilation of all DirectX, OpenGL and Windows SDK lib and include files. Only that is linked to, and this process, for CodeBlocks, is detailed in episode 10 of this series.
