The End of Washington Post?
For years, we, Ukrainians, have raised concerns about the quality of media coverage of newspapers like NYT and Washington Post. But we never thought it will come to this: Jeff Bezos, owner of The Washington Post, intervened in an editorial decision to endorse a presidential candidate in the U.S. elections, tarnishing the newspaper’s reputation.
To everyone who experienced the decline of democracy this causes nervous flashbacks. This is exactly what happens when businessmen become oligarchs and country descends into authoritarianism. Democracy does not die in darkness as Washington Post thought. It dies in the exact way it happened in Washington Post.
