When the West Decided Ukraine Should Not Win
We often talk about the key moment of the Russian war in Ukraine. In 2022 when Ukraine regained initiative on the battlefield and commited two successful counterattacks it felt like Ukraine is set to success, something happened. The Western military assistance slowed down, the red lines instated for Ukraine by the West were not lifted and the war shifted to the bloody attrition stage in which Ukraine is not able to reclaim the occupied territories.
The New York Times article "Biden’s Armageddon Moment: When Nuclear Detonation Seemed Possible in Ukraine" describing the events of October 2022, when Ukraine carried out a successful operation in the Kharkiv region, answered the question about the reasons for the US policy that we see to this day. Even if it doesn't feel sursprising, the details are both shocking and crazy.
