HERBAS can offer for complete technology from harvesting, presorting, drying and final processing as it has been in this field from the very beginning. The Croatian chamomile known world-wide as one of the best in the world - especially because of it's organic approach, superb agricultural technology and practical approach to processing.
For harvesting we are presenting tractor-pulled KVH series harvesters which come in two varieties - EH type with tipping bucket/bunker type for smaller areas and EHT type with telescopic sideway conveyor for improved capacity. They are hydraulically driven, with quick-connection couplers, easy regulation options from the cab and high torque capacity.
Equipped with standard Schumacher cutter-bars (sickle bar) add-on, our standard KVH picker harvester for chamomile (Chamomilla recutita, Matricaria chamomilla), can now collect mint (Mentha viridis, Mentha piperita), basil (Ocimum basilicum), mallow (Malva), nettle (Urtica) and many more. Besides top-quality cutter bars, Herbas uses heavy duty epyclic gear drive for linear oscillating motion ensuring no additional forces are exerted on the cutter bar like in usual crank-slider mechanisms, minimizing friction, wear and tear.
Our energy efficient HKS series floor type chamber dryers are able to provide you with a significant drying capacity, handling up to several tons of material per 24 h batch. Drying time can be further reduced, depending on the market niche and essential oil content requirements. According to some novel research, with raised temperatures, essential oils are staying at the same level, while bringing the time of drying down to 13 h.
Here you can see different dryers with 40 m2 of effective area - the largest standard batch dryers HERBAS offers.
They are ideal for herbal material – like chamomile (Chamomilla recutita, Matricaria chamomilla), mint (Mentha), nettle (Urtica), lemon balm (Melissa), etc. as it is easy to handle, control and they are extremely energy efficient.
Finally, by preselecting fresh chamomile before the drying, one can save energy and effort in the subsequent steps depending on the production focus. The cylindrical separator SEP is used for that - separating the harvested material into two fractions. First fraction mainly consists of tops of the plants, rich in flowers, mostly no longer than 50 mm. Second fraction consists of mostly stems, longer than 50 mm.
The chamomile should be dried in very short time after harvesting or spread out in shade into thin layer to avoid spoilage.
