Cataract Surgery for a Cancer Patient on Chemo | Narrow Angles, Weak Zonules, CTR | Unusual Case

The particular challenge with this case was the limited amount of space in which to work in. The high posterior pressure kept evacuating the viscoelastic from the anterior chamber, causing it to flatten, and risking damage to the corneal endothelium. This hostile environment not only requires good surgical technique, but also significant patience to remove the Cataract safely. The axial length was not abnormally short, but the anterior chamber was extremely shallow. Was this a side effect of one of her chemotherapy medications? Or was this just atypical patient anatomy? Regardless, in this video I will show you how I approached this surgery.
What is a Cataract?
Within a healthy eye is a clear lens. As we become older, that lens becomes cloudy. The cloudy lens is called a Cataract. In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens implant.
