Fly Tying Tutorial - Jan's Spark Plug

Jan Nemec's Spark Plug is a pattern generally used to catch Giant Lahontan Cutthroats of Pyramid Lake. The Spark Plug can and should be used at other Stillwater Fisheries as well. It is a heavy attractor pattern meant to be fished in choppy water with a more realistic pattern behind it. The Spark Plug is meant to keep the flies behind it in the zone. Jan's original pattern used an Orvis hook which I find somewhat difficult to find. His pattern also utilizes Angel Hair as a tail. Here I tie Jan's Spark Plug with a Tiemco hook and a tail made with Ice Dubbing. It can be tied in many color variations so get creative. Find the the following materials to tie the Spark Plug and "Feed Your Vise".

Tail: Ice Dub - Kingfisher Blue

Wing Case: Tinsel - Lrg. - Mirage Opal
Thorax: Ice Dub - Kingfisher Blue
Other: UV Resin - Thick and Hydro
