RING MODULATOR II / RM-2S Product Overview
SUGIZO, a guitarist and composer, enjoys immense popularity, creating unique sonic worlds with his unique perspective. His distinctive guitar solo sound is instantly recognizable. Fans will know that he has long relied on certain effects pedals to create that unique sound. That's right, a ring modulator.
It was in 1998 that Hayashi of FREE THE TONE created a custom ring modulator for SUGIZO. After 20 years, the "SUGIZO Signature Model RING MODULATOR/RM-1S" was finally completed and released in 2018. However, due to parts availability, it was a limited production run, and not everyone who wanted it could purchase it, leading to many requests for a re-production.
Meanwhile, SUGIZO approached Hayashi with a new request: "Is it possible to control the RING MODULATOR's SHIFT in real time using a foot controller?" and "Is there a way to increase the overall volume even more when using the RING MODULATOR?"
As work continued to make improvements based on the RM-1S, in 2020, Hayashi miraculously obtained the electronic parts that are key to the RING MODULATOR. Without these, it would have been difficult to bring the product to fruition. Using NOS parts we obtained, we added two new features requested by SUGIZO: "SHIFT expression control" and "the ability to increase the output level," and have finally completed the RING MODULATOR II.
