Dodge Ram 2500 p301 engine misfire low compression
dodge ram 2500 giving p301 code ( engine misfire ) pointing to cylinder 6. compression test revealed cylinder 6 at 90 psi where others we testing at 130 psi.
i leveled the head upside down and filled them with gasoline which quicly revealed gasoline leaking out of the exhaust port.
i then removed the exhaust valve. you can plainly see charring on the valve seat on one side.
i put the valve in my drill and spun it up to confirm the valve stem was not bent.
i attempted to condition the seat by cleaning it and firmly rotating the valve in place but it did not correct the issue.
since these magnum heads are known for cracking and my truck has 320,000 miles, i opted to replace the head instead of getting a valve job.
