why does the universe consist mostly of matter when the Big Bang should have produced equal amounts of matter and antimatter? If they were perfectly balanced, they would have annihilated each other entirely, leaving a universe filled only with energy. However, we observe a universe almost entirely made of matter. The leading theory suggests that the Big Bang created slightly more matter than antimatter—about one extra matter particle per 10 billion antimatter particles. This tiny excess of matter, is what, formed the universe we know today, but the cause of this imbalance remains a mystery.
