A relatively easy way to stop sound reflections. I chose to use Roxul (now Rockwool) Safe'n'Sound 16" for 2x4 wood for versatility. I was not sure that I was going to use to whole pack for the ceiling. I thought I might make a couple of sound panels to hang on the wall.
Roxul was rebranded in North America in January 2018 to Rockwool, the parent company, just before the making of this video. In all my research before this project, all the documentation and product at my local Home Depot was branded Roxul and there were still Roxul branded packages on the shelf when I purchased this late 2017 (and had in my garage). Roxul Safe 'n' Sound and Rockwool Safe 'n' Sound are the same product.
This does not sound proof. It merely fills in the air space to absorb the sound reflections. To really be effective, adding two layers of 5/8" dense drywall with acoustic glue and overlapping the seams will go much further to minimize sound transmission (something I might still do, but that is another project).
