Part 7 of the DLC Level 1 Journey. Avoiding using buffs, not collecting Scadutree fragments, but the urge is there for completionism at least. I do buy smithing stones as a way of “banking” my runes after bosses. They do sell for a loss, but it’s better than having zero runes because I’m too lazy to pick them back up.
Was to be a short leg, but I decided that this deserved an end to the fingers quest by beating Ymir. Then felt it deserved a proper end to the fingers quest by doing Jolan/Anna.
At the Cathedral I do chose to dupe Gaius's Remembrance. Since using it for Bayle, I just felt it was prudent to get it back.
The Finger Ruins were uneventful. Trying to find a route to not get hit by the binding spell of the enemy was the main thing. But simple enough. I did notice as I open the map that once again I forgot a map fragment, this time for the Abyssal Woods! So quick detour back there.
Took a bit to learn the Anna fight, her long range claws was definitely a surprise. But the Commander's Standard poke technique seems to, as always, be quite good for NPC bosses.
Metyr fight didn't take too long. Hate that I had to play around that laser. Annoyingly her grace is so far away, so had to go back quite a distance to get the right weapon and ash up.
Afterwards I felt, this was so short, and there's still more to the finger quest I'm technically on. So I choose to finish it off with fighting Jolan and Ymir. I totally forgot to equip the strength talisman to use my weapon! I do another fast travel to the grace I'm next to, as the load screen adds for a better splice spot. Maybe the extra load and fast travel is actually worse to watch and I should have done it like normal.
I didn't realise how annoying Ymir was. He has like, no punishable moves. I had to deal by just trying to poke after Cherishing Fingers. But it wasn't guaranteed. That spell is too good, such a good get away, and not easy to punish. Not even sure there is a guaranteed one. And then there are so many fingers to hope to dodge. This was a lucky run. Nothing more to it. Sad it wasn't hitless but his Glintstone spell can double back, and it's so frustrating to be in face as he casts it because of this. Just have to take it slow and not be greedy. My luck here when he got stuck in the R1 Combo is what won this. Ranged fight for sure. I was tempted to grab a Smithscript weapon for that.
At least Jolan is regular NPC poke abuse.
Then after this I felt, well, I went this far so may as well finish Jolan/Anna's quest. So there it is. The only difficulty is avoiding the fall damage as you fall into the tower with Anna's body. But here you see doing it by landing on top of the window frame.
Then I realised the best way to end this was the Fingers Gesture. Unfortunately I slid off the cliff trying to remember where it is. Awkward.... But at least a smooth end!
