Chevis - Part 1
My friend Chevis was born and raised in Baton Rouge. His formative years were spent in Zion City, the northern part of town. His parents struggled with cocaine addictions. He started dealing drugs in his early teens, dropped out of school, and spent 14 months in prison for drug charges.
Chevis has since found his way out of the drug trade and runs his own business. He tells his story and serves in ministry in hopes that his message will help others.
With help from my brother and son-in-law, I shot a video interview with Chevis in 2014. The entire interview is over two hours long. The topics include the drug trade, violence, racism, education, parenting, and government assistance.
We also interviewed his grandmother and I interviewed Chevis again last month, almost ten years later. These videos will be available soon.
