JoJo Siwa: Villain, Victim, or Both?
JoJo is a 21 year old who rose to fame alongside her mother with dance moms. She then went on to have a merch empire centered around her bow bows, a “music career” focused on creating music for elementary school dances, and a social media career making the kind of videos that raise tablet kids
As JoJo has aged tho, she has been called into question for a number of things, including exposing her minor audience to predatory figures, and most damningly for absolutely egregious behavior surrounding a children's pop group she and her momager ran, called XOMGPOP.
When news of this broke, JoJo's team seemingly raced to come up with anything to distract from this… and thus, JoJo’s Bad Girlification was complete. Kiss-like costumes, designed to go viral antics that are only considered “bad girl things” by people under the age of 13, and an overall strategy that seemed to be: bury it ALL in cringe.
TikTok became flooded with videos of JoJo dancing poorly, singing poorly, driving poorly, interviewing poorly. And because these videos are funny and a little lighter hearted than the videos about JoJos more serious allegations, and less subject to platform censorship because they’ve got fewer controversial words in them… they went mega viral. But whether that's a good thing for JoJo or a bad thing… well… let's discuss.
